About this Blog

This blog is about humanity’s relationship with technology.  My goal is to start conversations among Christians about how both our pursuit of technology in the real world and our portrayal of technology in science fiction stories relate to what it means to be human.  The way we portray technology in science fiction often highlights some aspect of human nature.  Second, our pursuit of technology often manifests itself in attempting to alter or augment what makes us human or the human experience.  I give a special focus to the ethics of emerging technologies from a Christian perspective because our view of humanity shapes our ethics, and I think it is important for Christians to take part in the cultural dialogue about these ideas.  Often, Christians react to developments as they occur, but I think it would be beneficial for us to think now about what might become reality for us in the future so that we can be better prepared for the conversations that result.  I invite you to join me on what I hope will be a constructive, and, at times, mind-bending, journey as we reflect on these ideas and their implications.
